Burloak Canoe Club Announces 2011 Open Houses & Registration Sessions

– Canada’s Top Sport Canoe/Kayak Club to Offer Programs for All Ages & Skill Levels-

OAKVILLE, ON (March 22, 2011) – Burloak Canoe Club, the country’s leading sport canoe/kayak club and defending 2010 CanoeKayak Canada/Masters Champions, today announced its 2011 Summer program and Open House/Registration dates.

Open Houses and Registration sessions will be held on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, May 1 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. both days at the Burloak Canoe Clubhouse located at 160 Water Street in Oakville.

Members of the public will have an opportunity to tour Burloak’s world-class facility, as well as speak with coaches and current members about the wide range of sport canoe/kayak programs offered by the Club for all ages and skill levels in Halton/Hamilton Regions, including:

Canoe Kids (Ages 8+): A five-week summer beginner course in canoeing and kayaking run in association with the Town of Oakville.

Elementary (Ages 8+) and Developmental (Ages 14+): Summer-long programs designed to introduce and develop students in the sport of canoe/kayak at a competitive level.

CanoeFit and Masters (Ages 25+): Enables new and experienced paddlers an opportunity to enjoy the sport (and compete as a Master, if desired) in a relaxed atmosphere.

All program memberships include access to Burloak’s facilities, equipment and top-notch coaches.

“While it may not be the first sport people think of, paddling is one of the best all-round fitness activities out there”, said Adam Oldershaw, Head Coach, Burloak Canoe Club. “Not only does it offer hockey and gymnastics athletes, among others, a way to stay active during the off-season, it does so in an environment that promotes self-esteem and competitive/team spirit”.
