OAKVILLE, ON (June 21, 2011) – With summer officially underway, the Burloak Canoe Club today announced its 2011 Canoe Kids program and session schedule.
Canoe Kids is an introductory course for children aged 8-12 run in partnership with the Town of Oakville. The five-day sessions, which run from the week of July 4 until the week of August 8 inclusive, offer young paddlers the opportunity to learn more about the dynamic and exciting sport of canoe/kayak along the scenic shores of Sixteen Mile Creek.
Each camp runs Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (rain or shine) and features a different activity each day. Topics include dragon boat, war canoe (14-person plus cox canoe), small boats, pleasure canoeing and water safety. The program costs $150 per person which covers access to Burloak’s facilities, equipment and top-notch coaches.
All safety precautions are observed. Each participant must hold the Red Cross Aquaquest 7 swimming award or LSS Swimmer 5 award. They must also supply their own life jacket.
